Waterhole Blues - Original Art

The second painting from the new series inspired by my visit to the South Steens Mustang HMA, July 2023. Mustang stallion Spirit is posing again. This time, I found him by the waterhole alone around midday. It was hot and he was quite subdued.  From this angle, I could see that his left eye is blue!

As I move into painting this series, I am working through color inspiration ideas, infusing my memories of sage grass, the feeling of the heat of the day, a swish of the tail, contrasted with his stoic pose, just chilling by the waterhole.
