First Paintings of 2025!
Share
Hello and Happy New Year!!
Each year I create new folders on my computer for the artwork of the year. I know that there is a journey ahead to fill the folders, but I don't know yet what will be in there. This week I saved my first two paintings of 2025 into the folder - so it's a start!
The Chase, 18" x 18" x 1.5" Oil and Cold Wax on Panel.
I have had The Chase on the go for a minute. It went through some edits as I've never tried to replicate the effect of dust with cold wax medium. There was also a second horse in the painting at one point, but it just seemed like too much to include without making the painting too busy. My subject is Mustang Spirit from South Steens. I know he was rounded up last fall. I am not sure if he will be re-released or adopted.
South Steens Golden Boy, 16" x 20" x 7/8" oil on panel
Painting #2 into 2025 was the first in the series featuring the horses from my 2024 trip to South Steens. The golden palomino and copper mare were the highlight from that trip. The intention of my paintings are often recreate the feeling when I experienced my subjects. In this case, the palomino, who I have coined Golden Boy crested a berm and just shone in the light. He was sturdy, but cute, a curious expression. I am happy with his look. More to come in this series.....
Events!
Celebration of Creativity - Beaverton Oregon
I have two events in March on the calendar so far. Both on the same weekend. They are both in Oregon. The Celebration of Creativity is a longstanding event (45 + years!!) held at the Southminster Presbyterian Church in Beaverton Oregon. The show opens Thursday March 6th in the evening 7pm-9pm with Live Music by Jazz Duo Blackburn & Duthie. This event runs through until Sunday. Please check the website for show hours and details. I will be sending 6 paintings TBD to this event. I will be in attendance at the opening reception.
Buckman Art Show and Sell - Portland
Another longstanding anticipated event, 35 years running!! This is a juried event focusing on local artists. I will be manning my booth for the day, Saturday March 8th. For details please visit The Buckman Art Show website. There are over 100 artists at this event. I will be bringing smaller works, including mixed media artwork, prints and notecards to sell at this popular show.
