What is Yupo?? Yupo is waterproof synthetic paper. It is ultra-smooth and somewhat slippery. This surface is a new and exciting discovery for me. Thinned oil paint sits on top of the surface until enough tooth is built up in layers, unexpected drips happen and are wanted. The smooth surface allows me to model my equine form by adding and removing paint with various tools - an exciting dance until the figure is formed.
Stallion Drive is a horse from this summer's Kiger Valley ride to see Oregon's wild Kigers. He was driving his mare and foal to a safe locale from an approaching, challenging stallion. Close up you will see my reductive techniques, and hints of my initial sketch. I enjoying allowing the history of the process to come through.
